SoftALM® & SoftAgile™ - Which one is right for my team?

Satish Kamat, MD, 29 March 2016.

So another day at a potential customer, between SoftALM® and SoftAgile, which one should they choose? Let me start with a simpler and shorter version of my reply.

SoftALM® is built for product focus end-users, like software product companies or non-software sector companies like insurance, banks, retailers, etc, who commonly build and update applications for their internal consumption and/or their customers' use. SoftALM® is a truly end-to-end application lifecycle management platform, meaning it integrates all components from definition to version management in a single platform.

SoftAgile is built for project focused end users and is based on feedback from software services companies and start-up teams. Thus a non-software sector company which builds applications only occasionally, SoftAgile is perfect choice. You can also use it with your out-sourcing team also. Rather it is made for it. Once again, for customer application, this is an end-to-end project lifecycle management tool, complete with customer issue and support.

This difference is brought out below:

Thus, SoftALM® captures product line and products definition through epics, features, stories and requirements. In line with SAFe®, it provides portfolio ranking to scope prioritised features to a program that can have multiple releases of a product or a product line. It also provide agile and waterfall modes of software development. Verify quality module keeps tabs of defects in products by version. Customer issues are added to make a decision by product team.

SoftAgile helps agile teams craft great software through projects to develop application over multiple releases. It allow to manage backlog through multiple teams across iterations, allowing monitoring of progress on task, story, defect, feature, iteration and release basis.

So if you are looking for an Agile ALM tool or Agile Project Team tool, now you have choice of tools which are built to facilitate waterfall to agile transition.
